- Discard any articles that are no longer worth keeping or cost more to ship than they are worth.
- We recommend that you carry all high value articles with you. Articles such as coin collections, stamp collections, Jewelry, furs, etc.
- We recommend that you don't ship any type liquids. In the winter they tend to freeze and in the summer they tend to expand and break the containers. In most instances, insurance will not cover damage caused by liquids.
- You can not move any type combustibles. (Paint, lighter fluid, gasoline, matches, oil, aerosol cans, etc.)
- Arrange to have phone and other utilities disconnected the DAY AFTER move out day.
- Send change of address cards to appropriate businesses.
- Prepare a trip kit for moving day, containing anything you'll need while your goods are in transit. (Light bulbs, toiletries, screw drivers, plastic utensils, plates, etc.)
- Empty and defrost your refrigerator and freezer 24 hrs. before moving day.
- Utilize tile space in your chest of drawers and dressers to pack nonbreakables. Also, use space in clothes hampers, cedar chests, garbage cans, etc.
- Label the contents of boxes you pack and the room the box is coming from. Label the boxes on the sides, not on tile top.
- All boxes you pack, must be completely taped shut.
- If you have the original boxes for stereo equipment, it is best to repack them back in those containers.
- General Rule of Thumb - The heavier the articles to be packed, the smaller the cartons they should go in.
- Any articles in the attic should be brought down to the ground floor.
- Upon delivery, electric articles should riot be plugged in until they cool down or warm up to room temperature.
- If you store your household goods in a self-storage area make sure the tractor-trailer has good access to the facility. If the driver has to carry your goods more than 75ft., there will be additional long carry charges.
- If you are storing your household goods in a self-storage area, make sure that you have some type of pads to cover your furniture.
- Make mover aware of any stair carries or long carries at your new destination. There are additional charges for those services.
- If you are moving an automobile, make sure the car has a 1/4 or less of gas. Utilize space in the car to put articles that you need immediately upon arrival at your new residence.
- At time of delivery, it is usually a two-person job to receive your household goods. One person to check offthe inventory and one person to show the driver where to place the articles. It is important to document with the driver, any missing articles or any visible damage to your household goods.
